Lomas del Obraje
February 22, 2010 by klaudia · Leave a Comment

Lomas del Obraje is the last wild space bordering the historic center of San Miguel de Allende where one can still live.
Only 600meters from the Jardin Principal, it is a retreat where one wakes to a vista of garambullo cacti and mezquite trees while still being able to take a 5 minute walk to a café beside the Paroquia for breakfast with friends.
All houses and sites are accessed from either Calle Acamapixtle or Calle Moctezumza and share a private path through the trees to the nature reserve and lagoon of the Presa Obraje.
Home sites range from 400 m2 to 820 m2. Site controls ensure all homes have unrestricted views and access to the Presa Obraje reserve.
You may use our design team or you may bring your own, but a minimum of 160 m2 of gardens are required in the design of each home, ensuring that nature is part of the process.

Ecology
Lomas del Obraje is situated at the foot of the canyon that carves its way up to the bio-reserve of El Charco del Ingenio, home to 535 species of local flora, 156 species of birds and 110 of butterflies, plus numerous small reptiles and mammals.
Years of abuse had reduced this 1-hectare site to a parody of its former health. Its Mezquite and Huizache trees were sick from plague and much of the local flora had been choked out by invasive growth. Fortunately the remaining Garambullo and Cholla cactus were resilient and the Pirul trees still thrived on the water that ran underground.
Fours years of careful attention have changed everything. With the plague removed the Mezquite and Huizache have flourished. The soil web is coming back to life. The local plants are recovering their niches, the birds have returned to nest. Life is coming back into balance.
